My Irish Bucket List
As I explained on My 90 Irish Nights page, I am spending my 2015 summer outside of Dingle, Ireland working at a small B&B. Though I've visited Ireland before, I am excited to further explore Irish culture, language and cuisine while hopefully making new friends along the way. Oh, and of course, doing some work...
My Irish Bucket List: Summer 2015
– Read 3 books on Irish history & culture.
- As I Roved Out by Cathal O’Byrne
- Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt
- Dubliners by James Joyce
Check out my 'Ireland Bookshelf' and Follow Me on GoodReads.
– Learn to make a proper Irish breakfast & dinner.
After working in a bed and BREAKFAST all summer, I can whip together a traditional Irish breakfast in no time. And yes, it's delicious. If I couldn't after all those days, something would be wrong.
As for a traditional Irish dinner of bacon and cabbage, yes I learned to make one. Sadly, I certainly can't brag that it has the same delicious quality as my breakfasts. But, hey, at least I have learned something??
– Pour my own Guinness at a local pub.
Behind the bar at Murphy's Pub in Dingle. The Murphy family were helpful and hospitable coaches for this one!
– Attend an Irish festival.
I attended the West Kerry Agricultural Fair and The Dingle Races, both of which are local festivals and were great fun and interesting insight into local life and culture.
– Play an Irish flute or the accordion.

– Attend the Irish Redhead Convention in Crosshaven in August (!!!)
This was a weekend for the books. Check out my post about the weekend here.
– Learn the 32 counties of Ireland.
Want to test yourself? I used this quiz until I could confidently score 100%.
– See a puffin bird up close.
Check out my post about my magical visit to Skellig Michael. It was one of my favorite days yet!
– Identify and visit my maternal family’s hometown.
Right now we think it might be Bantry in County Cork or Claregalway, but I'm still mid-hunt.
– Complete Duolingo’s Irish lessons.
This one is going poorly. Like very poorly...
– Watch a sheep get sheared & help shear it.
Still on the hunt for a friendly farmer to help me with this one!
I am set to leave Ballyferriter in about three weeks, so I still have a bit of time for my last few Bucket List items... Stay tuned!
