The Story of Oisín

Immediately when we heard the name Oisín, we both agreed it was the one.

As the hours passed and I read more about history of the name and learned the story of Oisin and Tir na nOg, I felt it was even better suited for our son. The final piece that sealed Oisín’s fate was when we learned it means “little deer” in Irish. Christy, Kev’s father, has a multi-generational family of deer he has befriended over the years and now feeds by hand. So in a few short weeks we’ll have another to add to Christy’s herd!

Now, we just need everyone to practice the spelling and pronunciation (UH-sheen) before he arrives!

The best known tale of Tir na nOg is the story of the young Irish warrior Oisín, who fell in love with the flame-haired maiden Niamh, whose father was the king of Tir na nOg. They crossed the sea on Niamh’s white mare together to reach the magical land, where they lived happily for three hundred years.
